Proposed gas-fired power station and battery storage
next to Hutton sub-station

(Newest developments at the top)

30th July 2018

SLDC has announced that the Planning Committee meeting at which the power station application will be considered will be held at 10.00am on Thursday 25th October 2018.

16th May 2018

Statera have submitted a revised application for a gas fired power station at Greenmoor Bank, Old Hutton, although they have dropped the battery storage facility. There will be a Public Meeting in Old Hutton Public Hall on Monday 21st May 2018 at 7.30pm. You can object by going to SLDC's Planning website and looking for SL/2018/0388, then clicking on Comment. You should even be able to get there by doing a simple Google search for SL/2018/0388.

Following the meeting of Old Hutton Parish Council on Monday 21st May 2018 there will be a meeting of the Power Station Action Group at 7.30pm in the Public Hall.

11th December 2017:
There will be a meeting at 6.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday 12th December) in the back room at Old Hutton Public Hall for anyone who wishes to speak at the SLDC Planning Committee meeting on the 4th January about the applications for a gas-fired power station and a battery storage facility in Old Hutton.

Arthur Robinson
Parish clerk
2nd November 2017:
I have received three questions from residents of the parishes which officers at SLDC have answered. The points are:

1. The applications will be going to Planning Committee on Thursday January 4th 2018 all being well.

2. Anyone can write in about any application or even the department’s report right up to the time of the decision.

3. The Planning Officer's deadline for his report for the January Committee is the beginning of December.

He suggests that if any interested person has any further comments in relation to the extra information added to the SLDC website this week they should make them by then so that they are included in that report.

In terms of public representation at Planning Committee on the 4th January the present system will apply ie many speakers with each limited to 3 minutes.

Parish clerk
31st October 2017:
Many new documents from Statera concerning these applications have been put onto the SLDC website today.

The Planning Officer, Simon Fawcett, has informed me that the applications will be discussed at the January meeting of SLDC Planning Committee, rather than at the end of November, in order to allow comments to be received from Cumbria County Council and from the parish councils.

Regards, ARTHUR ROBINSON

Reply to the planning applications from Cumbria Highways, dated 29 June:

4th July 2017:
In a phone conversation, Simon Fawcett, the SLDC Planning Officer, said that Statera will be submitting supplementary information about the two planning applications. The 500+ comments on the SLDC website will remain there and residents will be able to send in new comments to respond to the new information right up to the 28th September when the applications are to be discussed, though, as before, he will be able to consider comments for his report only up to the time when he writes it.

The site visit by the planning committee will not now take place on the 20th July. It will be held about a week before the 28th September.

Simon expressed his thanks to the parish councils, the several groups and the many individuals who have sent in comments. He said they had greatly reduced his work by supplying relevant, often technical, information and highlighting the important concerns. He will make sure that the parish councils are kept up to date with developments so that relevant information can be forwarded quickly to interested parties and parishioners.

ARTHUR ROBINSON, Parish Clerk
3rd July 2017:
I have received this email today from Simon Fawcett of SLDC's Planning Department:

"Dr Robinson and Councillor Thornton,

"This email is to let you that it is at this moment in time that this application will be going to Planning Committee on the Thursday 28 September 2017 not the initially raised dates at the end of July.

There are two reasons for this:
  • the applicant wishes to spend more time assessing the numerous comments received and to allow us (the planning department) to understand and explore those representations (including the current objection from Cumbria County Council) and
  • the deadline for the OFGEM bids have been extended to later in the year so the initial rush to get the application before Committee early and an early decision is not needed.

If you have questions please don’t hesitate to contact me."

Deadline for comments about the Power Station and Battery Storage

8th June 2017:
Following some confusion about the final date for comments to SLDC about Statera's proposed Gas Fired Power Station and Battery Storage Plant, I have contacted the Planning Department, who have confirmed that the closing date is Wednesday 14th June, though later comments will still be considered up to the time the application goes on to the Planning Committee's Agenda.
ARTHUR ROBINSON, Parish Clerk

These links will take you straight to the comments section for:

- the battery storage facility
- the gas fired power station

6th June 2017:
Several residents of New Hutton have said that they were unable to attend the excellent talk at Old Hutton given by Mike Horsfall about the proposed gas-fired power station and battery storage plant at Hutton Substation. Therefore, Mike will give the talk again at 7pm on Tuesday the 13th June at New Hutton Institute. All are very welcome to attend. It will also be followed by an extraordinary meeting of New Hutton Parish Council to determine the comments to be sent to SLDC about the planning applications.

Statera will hold an exhibition from 5pm to 8pm today (Tuesday 6th June) at New Hutton Institute which will include a presentation at 7pm about the two planning applications.

The company will repeat the exhibition and talk from 5pm to 8pm at Old Hutton Public Hall on Wednesday 7th June.

Regards
Arthur Robinson, Parish Clerk
29th May 2017:
I have been asked by several people to send out the guidance on how to write a letter to SLDC to object to the proposed battery storage and power station. I have attached the guidance (HERE) together with the presentation given by Mike Horsfall which has a few changes from the version I previously sent out. The deadline for comments to SLDC is now the 23rd June but the planners advise the earlier the better.
ARTHUR ROBINSON

27th May 2017:
Old Hutton Public Hall was packed for the meeting about the power station applications on Wednesday 24th May. Many people have said they could not attend and have asked for information, so you can see the excellent presentation given by Mike Horsfall HERE.

The deadline for submission of comments to SLDC about the power station and battery storage plants is 14th June.

The open meeting chaired by the two parish councils will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday 24th May at Old Hutton Public Hall. It will summarise the two applications, outline issues, include an open discussion and describe the format for comments to be sent to SLDC. There will be a confidential vote - please bring a pen. The views of local residents carry strong weight with the SLDC Planning Committee so it is important that as many people attend as possible. This is the most important meeting in the sequence listed here.

Old Hutton & Holmescales Parish Council will meet at 7pm on Monday 29th May at the Public Hall to determine its comments.

Tuesday 6th June - Statera's exhibition and presentation at New Hutton Institute from 5 to 8pm

Wednesday 7th June - Statera's exhibition and presentation at Old Hutton Public Hall from 5 to 8pm

New Hutton Parish Council will meet at 7pm on Tuesday 13th June at the Institute to determine its comments.

Please see the attached notice about a very important open meeting to discuss the major industrial development proposed at a field next to Hutton Substation. Old Hutton & Holmescales and New Hutton Parish Councils would like as many people to attend as possible so that they can measure the opinions of local residents.

The documents for the proposed power station and battery storage plant in Old Hutton have been placed on the SLDC website. To see them use the following steps:

www.southlakeland.gov.uk
click “Search for a planning application”
click “The planning register”
in the box “Planning Application Number” type either “SL/2017/0425” (the battery storage plant) or “SL/2017/0426” (the gas-fired power station)
click “View Plans & Documents”

The following meetings have been arranged:

On Tuesday 16th May there was a meeting of the steering group at Old Hutton Public Hall. Its aim is to prepare for the open meeting and the meeting of SLDC Planning Committee. The steering group meeting is for those who would like to take an active part in opposing the applications. This could be by doing research, preparing a leaflet, delivering information to houses, or helping in many other ways. The important theme of sending comments to SLDC will be discussed in detail at the open meeting on the 24th May.

At 7.30pm on Wednesday 24th May there will be an open meeting at Old Hutton Public Hall for all residents of Old Hutton and New Hutton parishes. The aim of it will be to summarise the main points in the planning applications and the effects of the developments on the parishes.

From 5pm to 8pm on Tuesday 6th June Statera, the development company, will hold an exhibition and presentation at New Hutton Institute. The time when the presentation is to start is not yet known. The company will advertise the event.

From 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday 7th June, Statera will hold a similar event at Old Hutton Public Hall.

The date by which comments about the planning applications must be sent to SLDC is not yet known. It is assumed that it will be around Friday 9th June so time is pressing. When the deadline is known for certain it will be sent out.

On the 21st March Statera Energy held an exhibition at Old Hutton Public Hall about their proposed developments on land next to Hutton substation. The attached file contains the information that was on display. Click HERE to open the file.
